Letter
from Andy Rooney
CBS’ 60 Minutes
Dear
Michael,
I’m
very little inclined to be friendly to anyone who has so little
sense as to move from Glens Falls to Plantation, Florida. It’s
not that there’s anything wonderful about Glens Falls. The
wonderful thing about Glens Falls is its proximity to places that
are. If you keep at it, maybe you’ll become Glens Falls’
Bill Kennedy. [Pulitzer Prize winning author of Ironweed
and other novels situated in Albany, 40 miles south of Glens Falls]
I
grew up summers at Pilot Knob and know Lake George thoroughly
well. We lived next door to the Robinsons at the Lake. Their house
in Glens Falls was 18 Harrison Avenue. We still have the place
at the lake but don’t go there much. Our grown children
like it.
I
worked for two summers at Union Bag in Hudson Falls. The other
good thing about Glens Falls is, it isn’t Hudson Falls.
I
liked some of your poems, although I don’t have much patience
with poets or poetry. I always want to yell, “Out with it,
Man! For Christ’s sake, say it!”
Sincerely,
Andrew A. Rooney
